Move a ChatGPT conversation to Claude

Hit the ChatGPT limit or want a second opinion? Move the conversation to Claude in three steps.

How to copy the conversation from ChatGPT

Open the chat in ChatGPT and copy the text: on a computer, select from start to end and press Ctrl+C (Cmd+C on a Mac); on a phone, copy the most important messages. If it's long, use the summary request in step 1 first.

Claude has also announced its own ways to import memory from other chatbots. Those bring over preferences and general history; to continue one specific conversation, in any chatbot and without an account, use the tool below.

1. Long chat? Ask the old chat for a summary

Copy this request, paste it into the chat you were using, and use the answer in step 2.

Summarize this conversation so I can continue it with another AI assistant: the goal, what we've decided, key facts and numbers, what's left to do, and the last open question. Use bullet points; be complete but concise.

3. Pick where to continue

"Open with text" starts the chat with your message already filled in. For the others, we copy the text and open the site so you can paste it.

Privacy: the text stays in your browser. We don't store or send anything; when you open another chat, the message goes straight to that service under its own rules.

Tips

  • Cut what doesn't matter (greetings, repeated answers) so it fits the new chat's limit.
  • Files and images don't carry over in text, so upload them again in the new chat.
  • Gemini and Claude can also import ChatGPT memory in their settings; this tool moves one specific conversation, no account needed.
